This focus skill may make all the difference for you right now during times of change and uncertainty.

I thought I’d share with you an insight I had whilst I was swimming this morning and that was there were moments in time I noticed how my concentration skills and mindset was a little bit all over the place. It was scattered which really did not support my breathing and my focus.

So one of the ways I realized that I tap into very quickly, because I get asked a lot “How do you maintain focus?” and one of the skills I’ve learnt is that focus is not just a mindset thing. It is actually a whole body experience thing.

As I continued swimming, I noticed that I consciously slowed my breathing down and then consciously went into my belly. So as I was taking deeper, slower breaths into my belly, this slowed my mind down and I was able to maintain a deeper focus on the next stroke in this very moment.

I would stay in stroke for a while and then I noticed my mind would start thinking about other things I needed to do for the day, thinking about the future etc. This caused my breathing to become scattered again, which affected my focus and concentration. This in turn affected my body alignment and definitely not in my flow.

It is noticing what are the things that take you away from being fully present in this moment inside of your chosen activity. These are some of the techniques that really support me that I also teach my clients and I thought I’d share this particular one.

A lot of people are not aware of this when it comes to focus and concentration skills because as I mentioned earlier it is not just about mindset, it’s breathing into the belly and placing your mind into the belly.

So literally asking yourself “Where am I now?” “What am I doing now?” Deep breathing, staying calm and this will support you wherever you are at right now.

To be able to focus in on what your next steps are, to be able to hear your next steps in whatever situation you might be in, inside your personal and professional life as we go through these volatile changes throughout the world right now.

If this is something I can support you with in any way, shape or form, then please feel free to reach out and I would be happy to have a conversation with you. It’s my way of giving back to the community so we can all get through this together – staying sane, staying resilient and staying productive.

Most of all, being human and being gentle on yourself. Enjoy your day nurturing yourself and looking at ways that you can maintain focus in this moment. Take some deep breaths and relax.

You might like to share with me in what ways are you looking after your mental and emotional stability right now so that you can stay calm, relaxed and focused in on what you can focus in on right now, looking at what is working for you.
