I’ve just been sitting here meditating and I often gain insights as I meditate.
Thought I’d share my insight today…
One of the things that I notice is that we are all working really hard to get ahead in life. As I reflect back on my sporting days when being in the zone, I realised It was never about working hard or getting ahead whilst being in the zone. There was always a feeling of spaciousness in mind and body. There was always a sense of flow. There was always a sense of knowing which step to take next and which direction to go.
This is something that each and every one of us has within, but what happens is we are in our head strategizing trying to work it all out. That’s when it becomes harder work because we are actually pushing up against and trying to work out the steps ahead without really being here first.
The only way you are ever going to know your next step is when you are in the present moment. So, that’s what I would like to share a little more about. Being present to your flow, in the moment trusting the inner voice, the inner vision that gives you that next step. Trusting that gut feel, that instinctual knowing that says ‘go this way’, ‘take this direction’.
Most of the time we have so many responsibilities, which we all do have, it is important to start to create some space for yourself so that you can practice listening into that gut feel, that intuitive knowing. Creating some space so that you can practice that is paramount for your momentum.
This is where true innovation comes from. We all have a creative nature inside each and every one of us; we are all born that way. That is not necessarily just about in the arts. It is knowing the creative strengths, gifts and talents that you have within already that somehow might have been buried, blocked or pushed aside because you are on that survival path of trying to get ahead. Tapping into your own natural flow, which is the creative path to a fulfilling life.
Making some space and time for yourself by going inwards will quieten the busy mind. One of the ways I do that is through meditation. I like to keep it really simple by focusing in on the breath. You can even do this consciously throughout the day by taking 10 deep breaths every hour.
This will actually slow down the busy mind and slow down the rush feeling inside, so that over time you will create space, not only in your life, in your mind, in your body, in between the actions that you are taking throughout the day that you are responsible for.
One of the most natural tools we are born into this life with is the breath. Taking conscious deep breaths throughout your day will slow things down and bring you back into the present moment. Being fully present is a conversation I often have with many of my clients and I’ve personally been through this myself with my own coach.
This has become my daily practice, which is the most powerful way I have ever found that has supported me in staying present in this moment, to stay in my body so that my head doesn’t race ahead. I notice if ever I feel a sense of frustration, anxiousness or overwhelm that is my indicator that my head has taken over in that moment. I notice I am able to catch it much quicker these days. This practice has been a major contributor in creating a healthy balance for my mental well-being, physical well-being and emotional well-being.
