The Essence of Expressing your Authentic Self

I am wondering how much you know about ‘Who you truly are’ and whether you are expressing your authentic self? Or are there masks that you’ve been trying to break through, in the hope that some how you will get to know your real self?

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think
we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” Brene’ Brown

This is a conversation that I quite often have with my clients and what I find is that they are often comparing themselves to other people, and other competitors. I work with high achievers, leaders, entrepreneurs, people who are very much in the business, corporate world, who want to identify themselves apart from the academic side of themselves, so that they can connect and engage naturally. And that takes a lot of courage, a lot of bravery in breaking that down, which is not a quick fix it, it is not a head strategy alone.

Behind Closed Doors

One of the things that came up with my first 2 clients this morning is how much we are looking outside for validation without even realizing. They told me just how much they were being caught up with looking at what their competitors are doing. I noticed the frustration in their tone of voice as they told me how much they were losing focus of their own vision.

Yes, obviously we need to know ‘the gap in the market’, but ultimately when it comes to being your authentic self, ‘it’s an inside job’. It is about sensing the trends in the market place and trusting your instincts, as you stay in your lane, taking action on your inspirational vision.

It is about blocking out all the noises and the distractions on the outside so that you can really listen into your inner mentor. The person inside who is really getting to know you; because your head strategy and a lot of our knowledge and past experiences, background; is possibly getting in the way of uncovering, discovering and exploring who you really are.

Trust your Intuitive Knowing

A lot of the high achievers I work with (and I am one of them) are very much impatient type people and it is very natural for them to go into head strategy. If you want to get into the heart of it in getting to know who you truly are then it takes patience. It is not a perfection game, it is a lot of patience in exploring yourself and that takes time, it takes bravery, it takes possibly going against the norm. Yet identifying areas that feel intuitively right for you at that time, even if you are going against the grain of what others are doing.

One of the things that came up this morning with a client was around the amount of content and training that is available today that is causing a lot of pressure and overwhelm. My client who is a very highly qualified academic business leader told me that no matter how much more knowledge she gained, she had a sense of ‘still not knowing enough’.

She quickly realized that she had been continually gaining knowledge all her life, which kept her inside a cycle of ‘still trying to prove herself to her peers’. She felt a strong sense that she wanted to really connect as a whole person – not just at a head academic level. Somewhere along her path, she disconnected from the purpose and meaning of the subject she was most passionate about and especially disengaged from her deeper why at a humanistic level.

“You’re not going to really know why you do what
you do until you know who you really are.”

This is about really going into the essence of who you truly are. The heart and soul of the content and the purpose of the content, which we call ‘the why’ why you do what you do. Ultimately, you’re not going to know why you do, as generally a lot of those reasons come from the head alone at the start. You’re not going to really know why you do what you do until you know who you really are – that’s not a head strategy – it comes from a life exploration with something that opens up in life.

Out of the blue, you might find yourself in a transitional phase. In your career, business, relationship, a transition, whatever the case might be that has you start a path of self-reflection. Going into yourself and really looking at what is important to you, what are the things that you may have outgrown, checking in on your belief systems that you may have picked up along the way that may have served you for a certain period of your personal, professional life that no longer works for you.

The Value of Self-Reflection Time

That’s why it is important to have that self-reflection time and my suggestion to a lot of my clients when they are in their busy head strategy, is to write this down. This will get whatever is going around and around in your head, into a clearing that is heart connected.  Another powerful pathway is to have an exploration conversation with a professional coach who creates a space for you to process those things in a way that gains clarity and insight quicker than what you would on your own.

If this is something you’re interested in and you want to explore and work privately with me, then that is something that I am passionate about exploring that side of who you truly are, what’s important to you based on where you are now and how you know you want to set it up. Or there is an instinctual knowing that there is a change occurring, yet you do not know what that may look like, so it is important to explore who you are now before we step into the what and the how. Because there is a lot of strategy out there in the world based on ‘What do you want?’ and ‘How do you want to go about doing it?’ without the exploration of ‘Who you truly are?’ – and that’s what I’m passionate about.

Please feel free to connect with me. Have a fabulous day being the essence of who you truly are. http://annettestanton.com/contact/

Creating Guilt-Free Self-Care as a Priority for Yourself

This conversation would have to be the most challenging for many of my clients because they feel selfish or even guilty about taking time out for themselves each day. The only real time they get to take ‘time out’ is if they book a holiday or if they are forced through illness or by even catching a cold.

This is always a signal that you are not living your life in alignment with your truth and possibly trying to compare yourself too much to others and how they are living their life.

Self-Care is the most nurturing and the most effective healing process to living the life you were born to live with mind-body-soul connection. Yes, you have permission to do something nurturing for yourself today, and every other day, so that you can be the best person you can possibly ‘BE’.

It is in Who you are BEING that attracts loving relationships, personal and professional success, wealth, health and happiness.

It takes so much more energy and strain on your mind-body-soul when acting like you have it all together. Give yourself full permission today to let go of the person you think you have to be to succeed and begin to BE true to yourself each day.

If you continue to follow your own path and trust this by taking flowing consistent actions with inner peace and knowing, then you will definitely create a life of purpose, peace and fulfilment in so many ways.

Enjoy this magical image I took whilst walking along the beach at Coogee in Western Australia. One of the many forms of self-care I love.

What brings you joy?

Transform your Life in 2018

Every year my husband and I have a celebration ritual next to our pool with a glass of champagne to reflect on the past year. In previous years, we found that we could not remember everything that we had accomplished, what we were grateful for, the people we met, the events that we engaged in, the projects we completed etc.

So I decided, in January 2017, to set up a large vase and placed it in the corner kitchen bench so we could see it every day as a reminder to reflect on our day. We would write on a post-it note with the date and whatever it was we were grateful for within that day. If we went to an event, we would place the tickets in the vase. Very quickly the vase was bursting with the energy of life’s gratitude.

Here is a picture of our life’s celebration vase.

Celebration vase

When it came time to go through our reflections, sipping on our chilled champagne next to the pool, we were both pleasantly surprised as to how much we had achieved, received, connected and engaged with in life.

As we reflected on our year, we both mentioned that we had so much more to be grateful for that we had not placed in the vase. Mark, my husband, also mentioned how surprised he was about how full a life we actually live without realising.

It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day busy schedule, with life skipping by so fast, we forget to really connect with the life we are living each day.

Transform your Life in 2018

One of the things that became clear to both of us by doing this was the pattern of what was most important in our life. The repetitive actions we took, what we were doing with our time, how we were exerting our energy, where we were spending our money etc.

This created a clear opening as to our evolving vision, goals and next steps for this coming year knowing these were all in alignment with our true values.

Our next step is to create a vision map matching our vision, goals and values.

Are you living your inspirational vision in alignment with your true values?

A little more about vision mapping (exert from The Power of Vision book) http://annettestanton.com/author/

Vision Mapping

The brain works with sensory images and associations radiating from those images. Every day, you take in images, which affect your life. Using selected images (goals) and associations (values) will support you in maintaining focus on what you do want to attract.

A vision map is a collage of pictures, photos, inspirational words etc. of your goals, values and vision. You can’t buy a vision map; it is important that you spend the time to collect pictures based on your own goals, values and vision. When you bring colour into your images (goals), this adds extra vibrancy and energy, suggesting the possibility of creative thinking in achieving your goals.

When I first started creating vision maps for myself and facilitating vision mapping in workshops, I would place all my goals and vision onto one map. This worked really well, though today I do it a little differently. I have fun every year collecting pictures and photos to make up my three separate vision maps in the areas of business, personal life and travel. All of my vision maps are hanging in my office and my home so that I can view them daily.

Vision Success Tip

Creating your Vision Map

Choose whether you would like to begin with one vision map, or separate your life into three or four areas. Get yourself a large sheet of cardboard and place a photo of you and your family in the centre. Starting in the centre allows you to express yourself freely and spread out in any direction. Now collect pictures and inspirational words from magazines or the internet and paste them on your vision map. The end result will be a colourful vision map of what you truly desire. Look at it every day and take in the colour and life of the pictures as though you have already achieved your vision.
